I increased the chili powder and garlic powder and added a few more spices for flavor. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the beef and onion and saute until meat is browned and onion is tender. Add the stewed tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, beans and water. I used half of the tomato paste based on the previous comments and it was still too tomatoey. I also ended up adding a lot more of the seasonings. My suggestion would be to not use any tomato paste at all and just the crushed tomatoes.
I substituted faux ground beef, keeping it vegetarian, and everyone thought it was amazing. Flavor was not sacrificed at all. I’m already looking forward to making it again.
